2026 - November 10th & 12th on Open Water Skills in the Pool

We are offering 2 training sessions on Open Water skills on November 10th and 12th.

Sessions start at 6.30pm,  and will run for an hour at the Lido Aquatic Centre outdoor pool.

What makes these sessions different?

The lane ropes are coming out and we’ll have the whole 50m pool to work with.

These sessions aren’t about smashing out laps. They’re about practising the skills you need when the lane ropes disappear:

🏊 Wetsuit familiarisation👀 Sighting and swimming straight🔄 Buoy approaches and turns💦 Mass-start practice🏊 Swimming confidently around other athletes💪 Building confidence before taking those skills into genuine open water

And yes, bring your wetsuit!

Perfect timing for summer

There are plenty of opportunities coming up where these skills will be useful, whether you're preparing for your next triathlon, ocean swim or other open-water event.

For MTC members, it also builds towards our summer programme, including the Lido Triathlon Series and the first Himatangi Ocean Triathlon in March.

💚 Cost - FREE for 2026/27 Manawatū Triathlon Club members. For these first two sessions, we’re also opening them up FREE to non-members as a come-and-try opportunity.

If you enjoy it, club membership starts at just $5 for Youth/Juniors and $10 for Adults, plus the applicable Tri NZ membership, and includes free SuperTri training and other club opportunities throughout the season.

Registration

Please register here by midday on the day of the event to gain entry to the pool and session.
