About Us

The club was established in 1997. Membership has skyrocketed over the years and has been over 300 most of which are families. The secret to this success is holding events for children, women and the serious athletes.

The club is family orientated and specializes in 8 Triathlons over summer (which includes, Team Challenge and The Manawatu Toyota Ladies Only Triathlon) and 5 Duathlons over winter and has also run 7 New Zealand Duathlon Championships. Been associated with the More FM Women’s Triathlon, Contact Woman’s Triathlon, Weetbix Children’s Triathlon (marshalling) and Whanau Triathlon – this incorporates the Family Triathlon.

The club is associated with a top performing ITU athlete – Kris Gemmell. Dual Triathlete and Aquathon world age group champion Hamish Hammond. Chris Sanson and Sue McMaster, Iron Man, Kona, New Zealand Representatives.

The club has an excellent working relationship with Linton Army Camp and Sport Manawatu. The club runs most of its events on the base.

We run an annual children’s Triathlon for 5 Mondays in February/March with over 600 children attending each week. The Weetbix Triathlon will again be here in Palmerston North with our help.

The club regularly receives awards for – Event Management, Operational Development, Financial Management, Volunteer Development, Player Development, Community Management, Marketing Management, Volunteer of the year, Sports Club of the year and Club Assist Award, Participation Initiative of the year, Best Presented Club of the Year 2012 and Club Event of the Year 2012 and Trust Power Community Award – Regional Runner-Up – Sports and Leisure. We have also won Sports Club of the Year, Club Event of the Year, Participation Initiative Of the Year. Also one of our sponsors Vautier Pharmacy received Sports Partner of the Year in 2013. We were finalists in Best Presented Club of the Year and Sport Volunteer Behind the Scenes Award (Christene Brown).

The club’s philosophy is to create events where all age groups and people of varying abilities can come along, enter on the day and pursue their own goals. Those that want to take the sport further are encouraged and supported and we hope to have more Olympic members in the future.
